News and Information

December 31, 2014

Let me start by saying here that, while celebrating this New Year twenty fifteen (2015), we should also remind all that this day coincides with a very important day to all Caprivians, The UDP day. In this year’s message countrymen, allow me to say that Caprivi Strip is a beautiful place belonging to all Caprivians. Our history depicts that we are a peace loving people who core-exist given our family linkages that tie us together. Diverse as we seem to look like, we have always been one people belonging to one Nation.

It is also common knowledge that where there are people problems have always been part of the equation, but key to it is acceptance and respect. We should understand each other as unique individuals, and thus recognizing our individual differences. It is my belief that exploring these differences in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment, we can understand each other and move beyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual.

Countrymen, let me note here that, a divided house shall not stand as it opens up for the current oppressor and colonizers to come and destroy it. Now, cerebrating this UDP day, we should recon that freedom cannot come to a divided house. It is only when we all are united that we can conquer our enemies. It is also intrinsic to value that it is the individual that makes a group, and groups make a community which makes a nation. It is important therefore, that we can work together to eradicate all forms of oppression in order to attain our freedom and independence.

It is time for the Caprivian nation to put away our differences and focus on liberating ourselves from the yoke of colonialism and oppression. Our diversity makes us rich and we should cherish it by doing ourselves a favor, uniting for purposes of freedom and independence.

It is important to remember and remind ourselves that many people and individuals have sacrificed their lives for the sole purpose of liberating our motherland - THE CAPRIVI STRIP. Many of our colleagues, brothers and sisters have sacrificed their lives so that you and I should not have to but continue the struggle for freedom and independence. Let us take a moment of silence to remember and recognize their heroism. We still have to this day many Caprivians languishing in the Namibian prisons with no sign as to when they will be free people. We should take a moment to appreciate and recognize their sacrifice and brevity.

In conclusion, I acknowledge that categories of differences are not always fixed and also can be fluid, but I also respect individual rights to self-identification and recognize that no one culture is intrinsically superior to another. Of importance, though, while all these exist unity for purposes of freedom should be paramount to all.

I wish you all a prosperous new year 2015.

Forward ever, backward never.
